Four Facts and the Jungle

Let's have a little fun, shall we?

How about we play with our imagination.

If you haven't done that in a while, well, I politely request you to channel your inner giddy kid and start entering fantasy land for a minute with me.

Sound good?

If not, TOO  BAD!

Just read on and let your imagination guide  you for just a little bit, please.

Trust me, it will be worth it!

Okay. . .

Imagine This

Imagine for a second that you just woke up in a jungle.

It's a gnarly jungle that you haven't been in before. After examining your surroundings, you quickly realize that you have no other choice but to work your way through the jungle and find a path out of it.

How would you feel if this happened?

Would you be excited? Scared? Nervous? A little bit of all those things? Something else?

Take note of that and read on.

Now imagine that an extremely friendly guide approaches you. After salutations and some polite conversation you come to find that he is a very welcoming and a completely nonthreatening person. In fact, you begin to trust him immediately.

This guide goes on to show you photos and even has videos of his time guiding people through this same jungle. He begins to describe the exact position you woke up in and shows you the trails you can take to get out of the jungle. He tells you what to watch out for, what to expect, and what typically happens to people on their journey through this jungle. He also tells you the different stages of the jungle that is normal for people to encounter on each of the jungle's paths.

Even more interesting is that he tells you all about how much fun the jungle can be. The sights, the sounds, the smells, and even the food you can find. He insists the jungle can be an incredible experience, especially if you know what typically occurs, what to focus on, and what to watch out for, like he does.

This guide seems so knowledgeable, calm, and resourceful that you begin to think about hiring him. However, before you can ask his rates he tells you that he'd be happy to accompany you on your journey through the jungle for free! No questions asked. He just enjoys having your company and your interest in letting him show you around. He truly loves the jungle and thinks you will too.

Now after meeting this guide, how would you feel?

Clearly you'll need to spend more time with this guide to fully trust him, but do you think you'd feel better than when you first woke up in this random jungle?

Now that you know what to expect, would you feel much calmer?

Not as scared, or maybe not scared at all?

Maybe his enthusiasm for how much fun you can have might even have you looking forward to this journey a little bit. Maybe now you're excited and can't wait to have some fun!

Okay, Stop

Okay, you can stop imagining now.

That wasn't that bad, was it!?

So what do you think the jungle and the guide represent?

To give you some hints, first I'll remind you that I am a Love Coach and Life coach. Second, let's introduce you to four key facts that are great to focus on throughout the rest of your life.

Four Key Facts:

1) Every single person on this planet wants to enjoy their lives as much as humanly possible.

2) The more you understand "how humans work" (especially mentally and emotionally) the more likely it is that you will enjoy your life AND the more successful you can be.

3) The more you understand "how life works" the more likely it is you will enjoy your life AND the more successful you can be.

4) The skills, values, disciplines and beliefs of happiness AND success can be learned.

Before I give you the answer for the jungle and the guide, let's elaborate a little on these four facts because I think they're incredibly important.

This is because the combination of these four facts creates a strong "core" foundation for believing that it is worth your time and energy to pursue the skills, values, disciplines and beliefs that can generate more happiness and success in your life.

Fact 1: We all want to enjoy life as much as humanly possible

One of the many things that bonds humans together is our commonalities.

One of the most important things we have in common is that all of us want the same thing at our core: to enjoy life as much as possible.

This fact holds true for all people, no matter what walk of life you come from: rich or poor, celebrity or non-celebrity, White, Black, Latin, or Asian; straight, gay, or something else; Christian, Atheist, Muslim, Jew, or spiritual and not religious, etc.

The fact cannot be denied that all people (including you) want to enjoy their lives as much as possible while they are here on planet earth (or traveling in outer space, I guess). We all just have different values, disciplines, and beliefs about the best and most appropriate ways of going about trying to enjoy our lives.

Facts 2 & 3: Understanding "how humans work" and "how life works" can benefit your happiness AND success.

After reading that last section, you agree that we all want to enjoy our lives as much as possible, correct? Well, knowing what is "normal" or "typical" for humans to think and feel (IE: "how we work"- fact #2) and also experience (IE: "how life works"- Fact #3) goes a long way in helping us enjoy life.

Understanding what it is like to be a human also helps use better relate to each other. Being able to relate to others and better understand them can be pretty useful in business and pursuing your goals too, don't you think?

Let's stay a little longer on facts 2 & 3, which can be combined and restated as follows:

The more any human realizes their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and life situations are "normal", the less likely they are to believe something is "wrong" with them or something is "abnormal" about their life.

Why is it important and helpful to realize we're normal?

Well, generally, when people are not enjoying their lives as much as they desire, it is very likely they believe something is wrong or abnormal with their thoughts, emotions, and/or present life  circumstances.

The second that person realizes everything about them and their life is normal is the same second they begin to worry less about what is wrong.

Last time I checked, when people aren't worrying that much they're generally happier, right?

Of course, some people keep finding new reasons why something is "wrong" with them, but that is another topic for another day (HINT: human needs psychology explains why some people continue to find something wrong).

Jungle = ?    Guide = ?

Consider these questions again- what do you think the jungle represents and what do you think the guide represents?

Remember how the guide showed you the way, told you what to expect (what is normal) and what typically occurs in the jungle? Well, in other words, the guide gave you the knowledge of what the jungle is like. Thus, the guide is knowledge.

Why does this matter?

At the end of the day, it requires knowledge to know what is "normal" or "typical". As discussed earlier, understanding what is normal and typical can help humans feel safe and enjoy their lives more. Thus, it can also be said that knowledge about humans helps us understand humans more, which can help us relate to them better, and relating to other humans is a key component to being successful.

So what is the jungle then?

No fancy build up here. I'll just tell you what it is.

It is best to think of the jungle as "the human experience". A similar way of saying this is "what it is like to be human".

All humans have thoughts and feelings (notice how thoughts and feelings are covered in Fact #2?).

We also have many different events that happen to us. We live, we die, stay healthy, get sick, we fall in love, we get our hearts broken. . . Tons of events happen to humans. In short, life happens, and certain things in life can be predicted or expected (notice "how life works" is covered in Fact #3?). All of this equates to the experience of being a human being.

Ultimately, it is "the guide of knowledge" that helps you understand the thoughts, feelings, and life circumstances that make up "the jungle" of your human experience.

One dynamic that also cannot be emphasized enough is this: Just as you felt during the visualization at the beginning of this post; with the right guide, not only will you feel safe. You also will actually enjoy the jungle! Said differently. . .

With the right knowledge you will enjoy your life.

What about the Fourth Fact?

GREAT question!

Thank you for counting, paying attention, and asking.

Now that you're imagination is all warmed up, why the fourth fact matters is best described by one last quick visualization exercise.

Let's say you wanted to enjoy your life more and/or increase your level of success.

Imagine that you knew exactly what needed to be done and exactly what to do and expect. . . but something in the universe made it so that you were completely incapable of changing or adopting the things you know you need to adopt in order to be happier and/or achieve your goals.

How maddening would that be!? How upset (pissed, frustrated, sad, whatever...) would you be to know exactly what needs to be done and expect (IE: you have Facts 2 & 3 completely covered), but for some unexplainable reason the universe was created in a way that does not all you to do want you know to do and want to do?

That would stink, right?

Well, fear not jungle explorer!

Fortunately, that is not the case because Fact #4 is indeed a fact.

“There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting."

 -Buddha-

“There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting."

 -Buddha-

Fact #4 Expanded:

You CAN change!

You CAN transform your life!

You CAN adopt the skills, values, disciplines and beliefs that drive happiness AND success!

(^Fact #4^)

There are countless success stories of many normal human beings that have completely turned around their lives and generated incredible amounts of happiness and success (myself included). In fact, many dramatic changes can be made in an instant! This bring me to a fifth and final fact. . .

Fifth and Final Fact:

I know the title has "Four Facts", but I'm feeling rebellious.

I have to introduce a fifth and final fact that is also incredibly important for everyone to internalize:

The second you fully and completely believe it is possible for you to improve how much you enjoy your life and/or achieve your goals is the exact same second you begin to transform your life.

In other words, change can happen in an instant!

One Final Question:

What are  you going to begin to fully and completely believe is possible today?
